This picture was taken in September on a Sedum spectabilis. This plant is grown for its flowers that appear in the autumn. The flowers attract bees, butterflies and other insects such as hover flies and is a great herbaceous plant for encouraging bees into the garden. Bees are beneficial garden insects that have an important role in pollinating garden and horticultural plants. As bees numbers are reducing we can all help protect this species by growing wild flowers and other flowering plants in our gardens. Farmers can also help by setting aside areas for wildlife and wildflowers, and encouraging nature.
